CHARLOTTE — Con grandes sonrisas, mochilas y bolsas de almuerzo en la mano, unos 8.300 estudiantes católicos regresaron a la escuela en todo el oeste de Carolina del Norte esta semana. La mayoría de las 20 escuelas de la Diócesis de Charlotte abrieron el miércoles, y algunas escalonaron sus horarios de inicio o días de apertura para acomodar a las familias que llegan.
La diócesis espera un tercer año consecutivo de récord de matrícula, con un nuevo obispo para recibir a los estudiantes al comienzo de un nuevo año académico. El Obispo Michael Martin, OFM Conv., ex educador de una escuela católica, compartió mensajes especiales de video de "bienvenidos a la escuela" a los estudiantes, los que grabó desde el asiento del conductor de un autobús escolar.
El Obispo Martin instó a los niños escuela elemental a aprender más sobre Jesús y sus amigos, para que ellos también puedan ser amigos de Jesús. Animó a los estudiantes de escuela media a tratar a los demás como Jesús los trataría. Y su consejo para los estudiantes de secundaria, que esperan con ansias un nuevo año y los grandes cambios de la vida por venir, fue "confía en Jesús". Ah, y "por cierto", dijo, "deja tranquilos a tus maestros y a tus padres", ya que "están trabajando duro por ti".
