WINSTON-SALEM — Members of the student council at St. Leo School held their annual Pink Bake Sale and Pink Out of Uniform Day Oct. 23.
Their efforts raised $741.65 for the American Cancer Society.

KERNERSVILLE — The 2018 Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School girls’ soccer team continues during the offseason to receive national recognition for achievements on the field and in the classroom.
The Villains have received the United Soccer Coaches’ Team Academic Award for the fourth consecutive season. The Villains’ varsity and junior varsity teams posted a 4.01 collective Grade Point Average to earn the award. The award went to 205 girls high school teams nationwide and Bishop McGuinness was one of only seven North Carolina schools honored.
Of the 32 players in the Bishop McGuinness girls’ soccer program, 21 achieved a 4.0 GPA or better.
Additionally, the United Soccer Coaches awarded their Team and Sportsmanship Silver Award to 17 girls soccer teams nationwide, and the Villains were one of only three North Carolina girls teams to receive the award. It marked the second consecutive year the Villains were honored with this award.
“We certainly take pride in the academic successes and leadership contributions of our players to the soccer program and to their school as well as their success on the field,” said Ray Alley, BMCHS girls’ soccer head coach.
The team posted a 12-6 overall record in 2018 and earned a share of the Northwest 1-A Conference championship. The Villains were ranked No. 6 in NCHSAA 1-A.
Rachel Klenke, a senior captain who is now a freshman at N.C. State University, was named United Soccer Coaches Academic All-America earlier this summer. She will receive her award at the annual All-America Luncheon during the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago, IL, next January.
