ASHEVILLE — On Feb. 7 Jason Boyer, WLOS News 13’s chief meteorologist, visited Asheville Catholic School, where he explained “what drives the weather?” to third-graders as part of the science unit they were studying.
GREENSBORO — Throughout Lent, students at St. Pius X School in Greensboro are participating in Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl.
Each family at the school was given a rice bowl to place in their homes before the start of Lent. In each class, students brainstormed ways they could focus on prayer, fasting, almsgiving and service throughout the 40 days of Lent.
Classes also watched video clips from Catholic Relief Services about the ongoing mission of the Rice Bowl Project. As an added educational bonus, each family will count the money within their rice bowl at the end of Lent and send a check back to the school, which will in turn be sent to Catholic Relief Services.
