GASTONIA — Connie Okonkwo, an eighth-grader at St. Michael School, is attending the Junior Beta Summer Leadership Conference free of charge – thanks to one of two scholarships from the Junior National Beta’s Alumni Association.
At the five-day camp in Greeneville, Tenn., this July, Okonkwo and other Junior Beta Club members will experience hands-on, adventure-filled activities that incorporate leadership skills, from canoeing and archery to using creative problem-solving techniques for collaboration.
The National Beta Club is an independent, non-profit youth organization that promotes academic achievement, character, service and leadership in students in elementary and high schools. Junior Beta Club members are in grades 4-8.
