HIGH POINT — Immaculate Heart of Mary School graduates were recognized for winning entries in the school’s Annual Respect Life Essay Contest at a year-end Mass and closing ceremonies June 4.
Essayists presented papers on a variety of highly visible life issues of the day. These were reviewed by a panel of five judges who awarded winning recognition to the three top entries, with first place going to Mikayla Ebel on the subject of abortion, second place to Michael D’Amborosio on euthanasia, and third place to Chris Kelly on suicide.
Organized by Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish’s Respect Life committee, under the guidance of Dr. Maryann Leonard, chair of the school’s English Department, the contest is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Bishop Haley Council 4507. The annual contest encourages graduating eighth-graders to think about important moral life issues as they prepare to enter high school.
