WINSTON-SALEM — Parishes and schools are praying in the wake of a fatal shooting at Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem on Wednesday afternoon.

Holy Cross Church in Kernersville held Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament and recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, immediately following Wednesday night's 7:15 p.m. Mass.

The school community at Bishop McGuinness High School in Kernersville will hold a prayer service Thursday morning at the school. School families are receiving details directly from the school administration.

St. Leo Catholic School and St. Leo the Great Catholic Church were briefly placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon while police searched for a suspect. The shooter is believed to be a fellow student, police say.

During their search, law enforcement placed schools in the surrounding area on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. St. Leo School is located about four miles from Mount Tabor High School. 
The incident remains under investigation.
